West Coast Road Trip
September 2024
Yaquina Head Lighthouse
Our trip continued south on Highway 101 along the central Oregon Coast.  The rain continued throughout the day but not enough to alter our plans.  We made a lunch stop in Depoe Bay at Gracie's Sea Hag where we had one of their specialties, locally caught fried oysters.  Continuing down the coast, we stopped at Oregon's tallest lighthouse, Yaquina Head, before spending the night in Florence.
Florence, OR

Looking out the window of our hotel in Florence in the early morning, we saw a deer a few feet away.  Our trip along the Oregon Coast included some stops to see the stunning views.  At the end of the day, we crossed into California where we spent the night in Eureka.
Eureka, CA

Eureka, CA is the largest coastal city north of San Francisco near the Oregon border.  The Eureka Inn is an hstorical hotel where we spent the night.  It is located in the historical old town district with Victorian style architecture with numerous artworks and murals. We explored the area especially the Victorian homes.
The Carson Mansion is a beautiful remnant of the city's industrial past. It's one of the most photographed houses in the country, and a perfect example of old Queen Anne style architecture.
The Pink Lady (above) and other Victorian style homes in the old town district overlooking Humboldt Bay.
Samuel Boardman Scenic Corrider

Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor is a 12-mile stretch of some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery not just on the Oregon Coast, but arguably the entire Pacific Coast. The Arch Rock Viewpoint had spectacular views along the short hiking trail.
